Research Project financed by the Agencia de Innovación y Desarrollo de Andalucía (Consejería de Innovación, Ciencia y Empresa) and discussed with the Junta de Andalucía on new methodologies for energy savings in railway planning.
We have developed heuristic algorithms and carried out an investigation into methods of optimizing the criteria of cost, reliability and energy efficiency enabling the development of a new methodology for the planning of railway electrification systems, including metropolitan (MTP Metropolitano) and high-speed lines (LAV Líneas de Alta Velocidad).
The proposed research allows, from some initial data (route, traffic forecasting, rolling stock, etc.), optimization criteria (reliability, energy efficiency and cost) and some constraints (availability of high-voltage lines, environmental concerns, rules & regulations, etc.) executing output studies for the optimal planning for electrification of the railway network.
We try to optimize the energy consumed by trains while minimizing the cost to build facilities for the train traction.
