RLP-26 – New unit for the treatment of refinery effluents

Adaptation of the effluents treatment to ensure the observance of the Peruvian law

Lima, Peru

Status: under cnstruction

The project consists in the construction of a new biological treatment unit as a final stage of the current treatment. The objective is to adapt the industrial dumping to the legal specifications of the new Supreme Decree of the Government of Peru (037-2008-PCM).

This project, with a funding of 5,000,000 Euros, has been carried out at the Repsol Refinery in La Pampilla, Lima.

The designed effluent treatment facilities include the following treatment stages:

• Biological reactors.
• Secondary decanters.
• Sterilization of the effluent.
• Active sludge recirculation.
• Sludge digestion.
• Digested sludge thickening through DAF flotation.
• Drying of thickened sludge through centrifugation.

The configuration of the planned plant, with two independent lines formed by a biological reactor and a secondary decanter each, enables the adaptation of the new unit’s operation to variations in the volume of flow of the effluents coming from the refinery.
